SALIENT TECHNICAL FEATURES
NTPC Talcher-Kaniha (TSTPS) plant is located in Kaniha block under Talcher Sub-division of Angul
district in the state of Orissa.

STAGE - I - 2 Units each 500 MW - Total 1000 MW
STAGE- II - 4 Units each 500 MW - Total 2000 MW
Stage-I Boiler:- 2 X 500 MW ,Once Through Tower Type, Single pass boiler
( No second pass), Maximum Height of Boiler:- 92 Mtr.
Make:- Stein Industries, France,
All the coil banks, i.e. Economiser-1, Economiser-2, LTRH, HTSH, HTRH, ITSH are arranged
horizontally.
Stage-II Boiler:- 4 X 500 MW, Circulation type two pass boiler with Drum.
Maximum Height of Boiler:- 85 Mtr. Make:- BHEL,
Three banks of Economiser, Two banks of LTSH are arranged Horizontally and Divisional Panel, Platen Super
Heater, Reheater are arranged vertically
Stage-I boiler where the contract will be operated has 134 no. of LTRH coils at 70mtr. Elevation and 134 no. of
Economiser-2 coil at 76mtr.Elevation and 134no. of Economiser-1 coils at 81 mtr elevation.There are 67 nos. of
HTSH coils at 66M elevation.
Overhauling of Boiler Pr. Parts, Stgae-I involves boiler water washing and erection of quick erect
scaffolding inside furnace for complete inspection of the furnace, erection of temporary platforms in the
boiler, over coil banks for accessing various coils in Inter Temperature Super Heater(ITSH), High
Temperature Reheater (HTRH) etc. Inspection and thickness survey of Hanger coil tubes and water
wall, tube replacement by TIG welding and radiography, Fin welding and shielding etc.
Welding of tube joints with IBR approved and tested HP welder.
It also calls for liaisoning with IBR inspector for repair order and licensing.
Safety aspects during execution will be sole responsibility of the contractor and it will be given prime
importance. As multiple agency will be working during overhauling handling of materials and
manpower movement has to be taken care off.
