NTPC Talcher-Kaniha (TSTPS) plant is located in Kaniha block under Talcher sub-division of Angul district in the state of Orissa.

EQUIPMENTS INVOLVED
Stage-I Boiler:- 2 X 500 MW ,Once Through Tower Type, Single pass boiler
No second pass, Maximum Height of Boiler:- 92 Mtr.
Make:- Stein Industries, France,
The main equipments are bolier, turbine and generator
In the main Boiler following equipments are also involved:-
64 Nos of Wall Blower and 56 Nos of LRSB per boiler. Boiler is equipped with 16 nos Spring Loaded safety valves, 8 Electromatic Relief valves .All Boiler valves except the control valves/Block valves are of BHEL make and mostly are under size 125 Nb. Boiler Burner is having 40 coal nozzles & 20 Oil guns.10 Ball & Tube mills, 20 nos drag chain link type raw coal feeders, 8 air preheaters and 8 fans are the main auxiliaries in the boiler.
Stage-II Boiler:- 4 X 500 MW, Circulation type two pass boiler with Drum.
Maximum Height of Boiler:- 85 Mtr. Make:- BHEL,
In addition to main Boiler following equipments are included per unit:-
88 Nos of Wall Blower and 34 Nos of LRSB per boiler. Boiler is equipped with 16 nos Spring Loaded safety valves, 8 Electromatic Relief valves .All Boiler valves except the control valves/Block valves are of BHEL make and mostly are under size 125 Nb. Boiler Burner is having 40 coal nozzles & 20 Oil guns. 140 Bowl mills, 40 nos gravimetric belt type raw coal feeders, 16 air preheaters and 16 fans are the main auxiliaries in the boiler.
JOBS IN BRIEF
The major responsibility of supervisor of Shift Mechanical maintenance is to lead the team of workers and handle all emergencies required to be attended during operation of the Unit. The supervisor has to obtain valid Permit to Work before carrying out any work. All equipment mechanical and electrical isolations to be ensured before start of any work. After work completion, the supervisor shall return the Permit to Shift Maintenance personnel of NTPC on duty.
Some of the major jobs carried out by the Shift Maintenance people are : removal of jamming of chain feeders, removal of Boulders from Feeders, Cleaning of rejects chutes from jamming. Attending to the abnormalities in Coal Mills in exigencies to ensure generation of plant, Dislodging and removal clinkers in running units,attending sootblower,LRSB and Oil gun defects.
