SALIENT TECHNICAL FEATURES

(ESP STAGE-II)

PLANT OVERVIEW:

NTPC Talcher-Kaniha (TSTPS) plant is located in Kaniha block under Talcher sub- division of Angul district in the state of Orissa.

STAGE - I - 2 Units each 500 MW - Total 1000 MW

EQUIPMENTS INVOLVED:

The equipment under consideration consists of Electrostatic Precipitators in Stage-II having four passes in each unit of Alstom make, model FAA 9 * 45 H – 2 * 78 – 145.5 – A2. There are eighteen fields in each pass and each field has one hopper in ESP.

JOBS IN BRIEF:

In general the contract consists of miscellaneous minor maintenance, breakdown maintenance, pass shut down jobs of the equipments mentioned above.

ESP internal jobs consist of replacement of plain bearings, inner arms, outer arms and pinwheels, shock pads, shock bar and GD screens. Field inspection, water washing, gauging, straightening of collecting plates, field alignment and rectification, lifting or replacement of shock bar, guides, inspection and replacement of emitting electrodes etc. are also included in the job. ESP external area jobs include checking and replacement of rapping motors, oil topping, replacement of couplings, servicing of gearboxes, checking of leakages in ESP area and checking of hopper heater condition etc.

During pass shut downs most of the work will be carried above 15 m height hence, workers need to have adequate skill and must be insured and informed to safely work in challenging conditions like heat, dust and height work in a highly confined space, moreover mobilization is required at a very short notice keeping in mind the generation interests of the corporation. As the working area is an enclosed space, only 24 V lights are allowed and the contractor is required to arrange for the bulbs and electrical connections.

The house keeping jobs consist of cleaning of ash from ESP floor and silo area floor, approach platforms and penthouse area regularly, also vacuum pump house, ESP switchgear rooms and ESP control rooms need to be cleaned on daily basis. Sweeping, removal of garbage, cleaning of algae by scrapping, cleaning of drains, window, doors, walls, staircases etc. also are to be done properly.

To meet the requirements arising out of emergency situations like huge ash accumulation due to heavy choking of ESP hoppers or due to ESP pass shut down jobs. Accumulation of ash sludge due to draining of settling bins in Boiler ‘0’-Mtr area, VIP visit, etc., the contractor has to deploy extra man days as per the instruction of EIC.
