NTPC Talcher-Kaniha (TSTPS) plant is located in Kaniha block under Talcher sub-division of Angul district in the state of Orissa.

EQUIPMENTS INVOLVED

The equipments under consideration are included in Bottom Ash Handling System, Ash Water System, Fly Ash Handling System, ESP Mechanical System of Stage-I (2X500MW) Units. The Bottom Ash Handling System includes bottom ash hoppers, clinker grinders, Hydro-Ejectors, Bottom ash discharge pipelines from bottom ash hopper to ash slurry sump pit with associated valves, fittings etc. This system is supplied by M/s Indure, New Delhi. The Ash Water System includes BAHP, BALP, Flushing Water pumps with associated pipelines and valves fittings etc. The pumps are of M/s Beacon-Weir make and the valves are of M/s AV Make. The Fly Ash Handling System includes wet ash and dry ash system. The equipments under this system are vacuum pumps, fly ash water pumps, wetting heads and collecting towers, silo with associated pipelines, valves fittings etc. This system is supplied by M/s. Indure, New Delhi. In addition to this also includes APH hoppers, Primary & Secondary duct hoppers, Economizer by pass hoppers, ESP hoppers etc. The ESP mechanical system includes ESP field equipments like collecting electrode & emitting electrode, Rapping mechanism equipments like plain bearings, hammers, gearbox etc.

JOBS IN BRIEF

In general the contract consists of miscellaneous maintenance jobs, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, overhauling of equipments of ash handling plant of stage-I.

The maintenance job includes overhauling & replacement of different type of pumps, gear boxes, fluid couplings, servicing & replacement of different type and size of valves/NRV and blowers, Alignment of drive with driven equipments, Replacement / Rotation of pipe lines, dismantling and reassembling of clinker grinders, Overhauling /Replacement of feed gate power cylinder, replacement of rollers of clinker grinders , Replacement of gate wedge & roller , removal of foreign material , reclamation of parts of equipment ,other miscellaneous works such as running welding , gas cutting ,fabrication and patch welding etc.

During overhauling and day-to-day maintenance works most of the work will be carried out in height. Hence, workers need to have adequate skill and must be insured and informed to safely work in all conditions. Moreover mobilization is required at a very short notice keeping in mind the generation interests of the corporation.

To meet the requirements arising out of emergency situations due to frequent choking of ESP hoppers, frequent choking of clinker grinders & clinkering in bottom ash hoppers, etc., the contractor has to deploy extra man-power as per the instruction of EIC.
