PROJECT SYNOPSIS

 

KATWA SUPER THERMAL POWER PROJECT:

 

The West Bengal state cabinet on 18.04.12 approved transfer of Katwa thermal power project to NTPC. Formal takeover of the project including land from West Bengal Govt./ WBPDCL is awaited. The project is envisaged to be commissioned during XIII Plan.

KATWA Super Thermal Power Project has been conceived as a coal based power plant of 1320 MW. 556 acres of land has been acquired for the main plant area and Ash Dyke.  Land for balance area is to be acquired.

Water source for the project is identified as from Bhagirathi River and Coal source is expected to be from Deocha-Pachami Coal Block.

Location of site:       

Town: Katwa (near Srikhanda village), District: Burdwan, State: West Bengal.

Katwa is located at 23.65°N, 88.13°E.

It is situated between the Ajay River and the Hooghly River and so bounded by water to the east, west and north.

Road connectivity

About 7 Km from Katwa Town, 50 Km from Burdwan Town and 150 Km from Kolkata.

The nearest state highway is SH-6 passing close to Srikhanda village and the nearest national highway is NH-34.

Rail Connectivity

5 Km from Katwa Railway Station.

Air Connectivity

The nearest airport is NSC International Airport,

 Kolkata.

It has an average elevation of 21 m (MSL)
