General Information
INTRODUCTION
NTPC Ltd. is the largest power generating company in India having total installed
capacity of 62,910 MW (including JVs). The company is engaged in the business of
generation and sale of bulk power. NTPC has ambitious plans to become a 130 GW
company by 2032.
Being the largest thermal power generating company in India, NTPC Limited
produces approx. 67 Million Tons of Ash annually, out of which 80% (Approx. 53
Million MT) is Fly Ash. Presently about 76% of total ash produced is being utilized
mainly in the areas of issue to Cement and Concrete manufacturing units, Fly Ash
Brick industries, Road embankment construction, Mine filling, Low-lying land
development and Ash Dyke raising.
Indian Railway vide their latest circulars dated 08-05-2020 and 03.08.2020 have
offered an incentive of 40% on freight charges on the Fly Ash loaded in bulk quantity
with proper covering / in uniform bags of standard size in open / flat wagons. For
covered wagons, freight will be applicable for that of LR1. This gives a big
opportunity to bulks consumer of Fly Ash to get it from Power Plants at distant
locations at much lower transportation cost.
In order to facilitate bulk loading of Fly Ash in Railway wagons, NTPC has developed
required facilities at its Rihand, Korba, Mouda and Simhadri Thermal Power Plants.
From Rihand, 4 BOXN wagon rakes have already been successfully dispatched to
different Cement plants. NTPC intends to start bulk loading of Fly Ash from these
Power Plants on sustainable basis to facilitate bulk supply of Fly Ash at lower cost to
potential consumers. The details on fly ash availability and loading station codes are
given at Table 1.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
NTPC Limited invites Expression of Interest (EOI) from interested bulk consumers of
Fly Ash, like Cement manufacturers and suppliers, etc. in the prescribed FORMAT
(Annexure- 3) for issue of Fly Ash from its Thermal Power Plants (listed in Table 1)
to be transported through Railway Wagons (BOXN / Covered wagons) across India.
The total Fly Ash quantity available at respective Plants is also mentioned against
each Plant. Fly Ash will be issued on “ex-Silo” basis in Railway wagons in bulk /
in bags of 40 kg / in one-ton capacity jumbo bags, as per the facility available /
requirement of the user.
For issue of fly ash in bulk quantity, necessary tie-up will be done with interested
consumer / supplier.

Interested Bulk Consumers ready to receive fly ash from NTPC Thermal Power
Stations (listed in Table 1), may submit their Expression of Interest duly filled in the
Format for Response to EOI (Annexure- 3) to the address mentioned below on or

liable for these costs, regardless of the conduct or outcome of the assessment

3. Arrangement with Railways, Freight charges payable to Railways, haulage
charges and other charges as applicable in case of transportation by Rail in
Environment friendly manner will be in the scope of the interested party.
