General Information
NTPC, Talcher Super Thermal Power Station (TSTPS), Kaniha generates about 65-70 LMT of Fly Ash
from its 6x500 MW TSTPS. At present fly ash is collected & stored in existing Silos (Total 4 silos -
2x750 MT capacity each + 2x135 MT capacity each). Further augmentation of the collection system is
under progress, after which there will be total 12 nos. silos (10x800 MT capacity each + 2x750 MT
capacity each). In addition, Fly ash bagging facility (for 50 Kg bags) and rail loading facility are also
being installed.
Tentative timeline for Readiness of new facilities envisaged are as under:
i) New silos : From September,2020 onwards
ii) Semi-automatic Ash Bagging facility (400 bags/hr) : August,2020
iii) Rail loading facility for ash in bags : August,2020
iv) Rail loading facility for Loose ash directly from silos : From Jan, 2021
NTPC, TSTPS intends to undertake Auction process for sale of Dry Fly Ash, on “As is Where is basis”
from its plant. Auction will be conducted among interested End Ash Users and Ash Traders. Fly ash
will be issued at price to be discovered through auction to the concerned End Ash Users/Ash Traders
through a Long Term Bipartite Agreement as per Terms & Conditions of NTPC TSTPS.
To have a pre-assessment, NTPC, TSTPS - Kaniha invites Expression of Interest from interested End
Ash Users/Ash Traders.
End Ash Users/Ash Traders may take Fly Ash to meet their requirement of Fly Ash in their various
business areas of fly ash utilization as follows:
A. Within India, like manufacturing of Fly Ash Bricks / Blocks / Tiles, Cement, Asbestos products,
Ready Mix Concrete,
B. Export to other countries for their various business areas in different fly ash utilization units.
C. Fly Ash shall be issued on “As is Where is basis” after weighment.
At present interested End Ash Users/Ash Traders may collect fly ash in loose state using existing
facility, i.e. from existing Silos using Bulkers or Trucks.
With the readiness of new facility, End Ash Users/Ash Traders will have various options to take fly
ash based on their convenience & preference. List of such options along with Scope of work of ash
takers are tabulated below:
i) *Arrange bags (see Note (b) below table)
ii) *Deploy manpower at NTPC’s bagging facility for
operating, handling & stacking the bags at place /
godown allotted by NTPC nearby silo
iii) Deploy manpower & Trucks for loading in trucks
iv) Transport to destination unit
i) *Same as above sl. 2) – i) & ii)
ii) Indenting & arranging Rake ** (BCN / BCNA or
suitable wagons) (see Note (c) below table)
iii) Deploy manpower & Trucks for transport to rail
head inside plant (at about average 1000 meter
away from stockyard / godown) & loading in rake.
iv) Transport to destination unit (including
transshipment to trucks as required)
